After two weeks on the run, an illegal migrant believed to have ties to the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua who escaped from an federal immigration detention center in Colorado has been captured, the US Marshals said on X Tuesday.
Geilond Vido-Romero, 24, was one of two Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees to escape from the Denver Contract Detention Facility in Aurora on March 18 during a power outage.
The feds said not only is Vido-Romero “a suspected Tren de Aragua associate,” he has an active federal warrant for his escape and another for failing to appear in court after he allegedly committed a theft and resisted arrest.
Vido-Romero was nabbed Tuesday while taking the bus in Denver, the US Marshals said in an X post.
The other fugitive, Joel Jose Gonzalez-Gonzalez, 32, was captured four days after his prison break.
It was only when authorities were conducting a routine facility-wide head count when they noticed the migrant pair were missing, ICE said at the time of the escape.
But when ICE began their search for the escapees, they said Aurora police refused to help.
“Local authorities were notified immediately and declined to assist with the search,” an ICE spokesperson said at the time. “ICE also notified additional state and federal law enforcement partners. The aliens are still at large and the search is ongoing.”
But Aurora police said they didn’t learn of the escape for hours.
“This was a cold event from the time we were notified about it,” a police spokesperson previously said.
“We received late notification about the incident and upon response learned the event occurred several hours prior. The Aurora Police Department is available to assist our federal partners with active public safety emergencies.”
“As a municipal law enforcement agency, we do not enforce federal immigration law and cannot participate in large-scale searches or follow-ups,” they added.
Vido-Romero was first captured by ICE in February after he was charged for crimes in Castle Rock, according to the feds.
He entered the US by crossing the border illegally into Eagle Pass, Texas, in December 2023.
Gonzalez-Gonzalez crossed the border into El Paso, Texas, in 2013 and was captured by the feds in February after he was held at the Adams County Jail in Brighton on local charges.
