Drunken wrong-way driver injures 2 in LI head-on crash: cops

A drunken wrong-way driver slammed head-on into another car on Long Island Sunday — injuring two people, according to police.

Giovannie Merisier, of West Babylon, was driving a red 2016 Nissan the wrong direction while in the eastbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway near exit 32 in Oyster Bay around 4:45 a.m. Sunday when the calls started coming in to state troopers, authorities said.

Merisier – who was traveling with a passenger – eventually crashed head-on into a gray 2020 Toyota in the center lane near the Baldwin Road exit (20S), New York State Police said.

The driver and passenger in the Toyota were pulled from the car and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, cops said.

Their identities were unknown Monday. There was also no information available for the passenger in the drunk driver’s car.

Merisier, 43, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment, and was slapped with an appearance ticket, police said.

An initial court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 17.
