Devin Booker wants to save Hooters.
The Phoenix Suns guard is pleading for Hooters not to go in wake of the news that the iconic restaurant chain may be heading for bankruptcy.
The comments came just one day after Bloomberg reported that Hooters of America is negotiating with creditors to restructure its $300 million debt through a Chapter 11 filing.
Following a 121-117 win against the Chicago Bulls — where Booker contributed 29 points, eight assists, and two steals — Booker took to X and posted a heartfelt plea: “Plz don’t go Hooters.”
With his season averages at 26 points and 6.7 assists, Booker’s message resonated with many who remember his early days.
He’s apparently always been a fan of the famed chain restaurant.
Booker and Hooters have a connection dating back to at least May 9, 2012, when he tweeted, “I’m thinking hooters tonight with the fellas.”
That post predated his time with the Suns or even the Kentucky Wildcats, with whom he played from 2014-15 prior to his rookie season in the NBA.
Booker’s love for Hooters also doesn’t leave him on an island.
Influencer Paige Spiranac tweeted, “Not on my watch,” when confronted with the reports of Hooters’ possibly pending demise, or at least downsizing.
Although the potential bankruptcy of Hooters has raised concerns, the chain isn’t necessarily going under for good at the moment.
Last year, around 40 locations closed due to underperformance, but none of those were in Arizona, and Hooters currently operates approximately 300 restaurants worldwide.
According to Bloomberg, the closures are part of a strategic effort to reduce debt and adapt to shifts in the restaurant market.
As for Booker, he has more important things to worry about on the court.
His Suns are 27-29 and currently 11th in the Western Conference, meaning they’d be out of the Play-In if the season ended today.
