CC Sabathia’s son crushes towering home run into parking lot for Houston

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

CC Sabathia’s son, Carsten III, is in his first season with the Houston Cougars and crushed a towering home run into a parking lot during the team’s season opener Friday night.

Houston lost, 14-3, to the Minnesota Gophers at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park, but Carsten III at least provided them a viral moment.

It was the second-career home run for Carsten III, who played two seasons at Georgia Tech before transferring to Houston.

The no-doubt blast had an exit velocity of 110 mph.

His father was recently elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Sabathia’s Hall of Fame plaque will feature a Yankees hat, where he played the final 11 years of his legendary career.

“This is home, The Bronx,” Sabathia said after the Hall of Fame election. “I found a home in The Bronx, and I don’t think I’ll ever leave this city. So I think it’s only fitting.”

Carsten III is the oldest of Sabathia’s four children with his wife, Amber.

He played his high school ball at Bergen Catholic in New Jersey.

Last year, Carsten III had just nine plate appearances with Georgia Tech and hit .143/.222/.143.

The year prior, he had 11 plate appearances and hit .222/.364/.556 with a .919 OPS and his other home run.

Friday’s game was the first of Houston’s three-game series with Minnesota.

Houston last year finished second-to-last in the Big 12 with a 26-28 overall record and 7-21 in the conference.
