Caleb Williams pranked by kids pretending to be Ben Johnson

Caleb Williams thought he was talking to his new head coach.

Instead, it was just a couple of kids.

The Bears quarterback appeared to be pranked on Friday by a group of kids who managed to acquire his phone number.

They texted Williams while pretending to be Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson ā€” one of the hottest head coach candidates this cycle.

ā€œHey Caleb, this is Ben Johnson,ā€ their message read. ā€œJust wanted to reach out ahead of time before it gets released to the media, I will be taking the HC job. Very excited to work with you in the future. Great things.ā€

Williams seemingly believed it was really Johnson.

ā€œActually? Ben,ā€ Williamsā€™ alleged reply read.

ā€œYes,ā€ the kids responded. ā€œI wanted you to be the first to know. We will talk more as the season winds down.ā€

Thatā€™s when Williams got excited.

ā€œOkay cool,ā€ Williams wrote. ā€œSounds good. Iā€™m def excited for the future! Letā€™s get this sā€“t going and turn it around n do what hasnā€™t been done in years! In the meantime!! Fā€“king go kill! Weā€™ll talk soon!ā€

Williams then called the kids on FaceTime.

When he realized it wasnā€™t actually Johnson, Williams smiled and quickly hung up.

One clue wouldā€™ve helped Williams ā€” Johnson hadnā€™t even interviewed with the Bears yet.

Johnson, whose Lions team has a bye in the playoffs this week, had a virtual interview with the Bears on Saturday morning, according to ESPN.

Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in last yearā€™s draft, had an up-and-down rookie year.

He completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions as well as 489 rushing yards.

The Bears finished with a 5-12 record, however, and fired head coach Matt Eberflus midseason.
