Brooke Shields recalls mortifying moment she walked in on George H.W. and Barbara Bush in their bedroom

Brooke Shields once interrupted former President George H.W. Bush and former first lady Barbara Bush while they were in the bedroom.

While co-hosting Thursday’s episode of “Today With Jenna and Friends,” the “Blue Lagoon” star told Jenna Bush Hager about the awkward interaction that happened during a visit to Bush Hager’s grandparents’ home in Kennebunkport, Maine.

The politician and his wife, who are now deceased, invited Shields to their $13.5 million home after they formed a “sweet” friendship in the 1980s.

“I was doing a movie in Boston, and I get a phone call –– doesn’t say who he is –– literally says, ‘Excuse me young lady, I hear you’re in the area. If you do not come to Kennebunkport, you are in trouble young lady,’ and of course, that was Papa Bush, so I brought my kids and we stayed there,” Shields, 59, shared.

The model took her two daughters, Rowan, now 21, and Grier, now 18, to the Walker’s Point compound about 15 years ago.

However, the trip took a turn after Shields put her daughters to bed and noticed that the ocean water was “flooding” the living room, so she rushed to put towels all over the floor.

“I’m panicking, right?” Shields told Bush Hager, 43. “And I’m thinking, ‘Oh my God, I gotta tell somebody, but nobody’s in the house!’”

Shields realized that her only option was to alert George and Barbara –– who were locked away in their bedroom for the night.

“So, I go to the downstairs bedroom and, like, with the fear of God [in me],” she said. “They had their little TV dinners, their little BarcaLoungers, their little La-Z-Boys, and they were watching [‘Law and Order] SVU.’”

The “Pretty Baby” actress mimicked shielding her eyes with both of her hands, because Barbara was “in her dressing gown.”

“And I’m like, ‘I just want to tell you that I think the house might have flooded, but I think I got it,’” she said while still covering her eyes.

However, Barbara didn’t seem too worried about the situation, since she urged Shields to come kneel between their chairs and watch the TV show with them.

“She’s like, ‘George, maybe Brooke can answer this question … Ask her, ask her,’” Shields remembered. “He goes, ‘Well, who do you think did it?’”

Shields watched the rest of the crime show with them and stopped stressing out about the potential damage.

“I was like, ‘This is a moment of my life that was so special,’” she admitted.

Bush Hager thanked Shields for telling her the sweet story about her grandparents, who died a few months apart in 2018.

“I never had a grandfather, and since I was quite young, he [George] would give me boy advice and be like, ‘OK, I like that one. I don’t like this one,’ so it was a very sweet relationship that I needed to have and hadn’t had anyone else,” Shields reflected.

Bush Hager has previously spoken about her famous political family –– which also includes her dad, former President George W. Bush, and former first lady Laura Bush.
