Border Czar Tom Homan says he’s meeting with Eric Adams on Thursday

President Trump’s border czar Tom Homan revealed Tuesday that he will meet with Eric Adams later this week in an effort to secure a commitment from the New York City mayor to help round up and deport illegal criminal migrants.

“I’m coming up there Thursday to meet with the mayor –  either he comes to the table or we go around him,” Homan told “Cats & Cosby Show” hosts John Catsimatidis and Rita Cosby during an interview on WABC 770 AM.

Homan, 63, previously met with Adams last December and praised him for signaling interest in cooperating with the Trump administration’s effort to root out and deport illegal migrants with criminal backgrounds and locate hundreds of thousands of migrant children that the border czar says are unaccounted for.

“He’s all in on addressing public safety threats that are here illegally and helping me find these missing children,” Homan said. “So, I will meet with him Thursday and we’ll see what [happens].”

The former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement indicated that he is anticipating that Adams will authorize the NYPD to inform federal authorities of the whereabouts of criminal migrants, including members of the ruthless Venezuelan prison gang Tren De Aragua.

“I’m hoping we come to an agreement where his officers will help my officers remove these public safety threats, especially Tren de Aragua and the other alien gangs that are creating havoc in New York,” Homan said.

“So, let’s hope Thursday night I head back to DC with a great agreement,” the border czar added, noting that he “won’t count my pennies till I got’em.”

The mayor’s office declined to confirm the potential Adams-Homan meeting.

The Justice Department ordered Manhattan prosecutors on Monday to dismiss the federal bribery case against Adams — siding with Hizzoner that the charges under the Biden administration were politically motivated and hampered his ability to combat the migrant crisis in New York City.

Adams, however, may once again face charges in the corruption case after the November 2025 mayoral election, as the the letter from acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove notes that US Attorney in the Southern District of New York may review the matter after the election.

The potential for charges to be resurrected has sparked concern from some, such as Adams ally Rev. Al Sharpton, that the mayor is now beholden to Trump

“It certainly sounds like President Trump is holding the Mayor hostage,” Sharpton said in a statement Monday.

When asked about concerns that Adams is obligated to comply with the Trump administration’s wishes ahead of the Homan meeting,  the mayor’s press secretary insisted Tuesday that Hizzoner has been clear about his position on criminal migrants in the Big Apple “since last year” and that it “remains the same” despite the DOJ order.

“Under Mayor Adams’ leadership, New York City has become a national model for what handling a humanitarian crisis humanely should look like. We have sheltered more than 230,00 migrants since the spring of 2022 — over 185,000 of which have since left our shelter system and taken the next steps in their journeys. But, as we have repeatedly said, the previous administration should have never left New York City largely on its own to manage this crisis and foot a $7 billion bill,” press secretary Kayla Mamelak said.

“The mayor has also been clear that he wants to work with the new federal administration, not war with them, to better the lives of New Yorkers,” she added. “That work includes going after the violent offenders who are wreaking havoc on our streets and ensuring they leave our city after being convicted of a crime and serving a jail sentence.”

“He has been vocal about his position on this since last year, and it remains the same.”

Homan noted that sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with federal authorities in deportation proceedings are a “target-rich environment” for criminal migrants.

The border czar argued that “It takes a lot of work” to nab criminal migrants in sanctuary jurisdictions because “It takes one agent to arrest a bad guy in the jail, but it takes a whole team to go out into the community. It takes a lot of investigative hours.”

“We’ve got over 600,000 illegal aliens in the United States with criminal histories,” Homan said. “They’re walking the streets. We’ve got a lot to find.”
