Ariana Grande has a deep connection to her emotions and recently shared that one particular Adam Sandler movie never fails to bring her to tears.
The Wicked: Part 1 actress openly admits she’s quick to cry over just about anything, but The Waterboy holds a special place in her heart.
“The Waterboy, with Adam Sandler, makes me cry. When they’re mean to Bobby Boucher, I cry. I don’t like it,” Grande told W magazine. “I love Bobby Boucher. He says, ‘Would you please still be my friend?’ and I lose it. But I cry at everything.”
Grande was referring to the 1998 sports comedy The Waterboy, directed by Fran Coraci and co-written by Tim Herlihy and Sandler.
The movie features Sandler as Bobby Boucher, a 31-year-old man with autism who starts as a waterboy but finds himself recruited to play football. The film also stars Kathy Bates, Fairuza Balk, Jerry Reed, and Henry Winkler.
Grande is referring to the scene in the film when Boucher (Sandler) loses the South Central Louisiana State Mud Dogs’ first game, and team bully Gee Grenouille (Peter Dante) berates him for it. In a desperate plea for his teammate to like him, Boucher responds, “I’m sorry. Would you still please be my friend?”
Grenouille rudely respond with, “No! Get away from me!”
