Anthony Edwards hurls ball into stands after being ejected in loss to Lakers

Things went downhill for Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards in a 111-102 loss to the Lakers on Thursday night.

The All-Star guard was visibly furious while being escorted off of the court following his second technical, which resulted in an automatic ejection in the third quarter and he whipped the ball at fans sitting in the first few rows at Crypto.com Arena.

The crowd roared with oohs as the 23-year-old Edwards slapped hands with some of his teammates on his way to the locker room.

In the third quarter, Edwards was driving to the basket while being guarded by Lakers guard Gabe Vincent and he slipped and fell while attempting a step-back move.

Edwards, who finished with 18 points, seemed frustrated there was no foul called on the play and instead was called a jump ball with Lakers big man Jarred Vanderbilt.

He was called for his second technical foul after he continued chirping at official Brent Barnaky and the other officials.

“He’s got to be better. He’s had too many outbursts. I think a lot of them are deserved,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. “They’re going to miss some calls from time to time for sure. We’ve been talking to him about it. It’s on him.”

Edwards’ first tech came for a separate incident shoving incident with Vanderbilt.

Edwards, who appeared confused by the call, gripped the ball as he learned of his ejection and bounced it a few times before walking off.

Edwards now has 16 technicals this season, which results in an automatic one-game suspension.

He will likely serve that when the Timberwolves face the Jazz in Utah on Friday.

As of Friday, the NBA has yet to address the incident.

Every two technical fouls after a player’s 16th will result in a one-game ban, per league rules.
