Jack Nicholson shows up when it matters.
The legendary actor’s ex-girlfriend, Anjelica Huston, revealed that he reached out to her when she was evacuating her home last month during the Los Angeles wildfires.
“I was in a car with three dogs, two cats, and the housekeeper, and he called and asked if I was all right, and if I had someplace I was staying,” Huston, 73, said about Nicholson, 87, in an interview with The Guardian published Friday.
“That’s the bottom line with he and I – when the chips are down, he’s there,” she added.
Huston also gave an update on her home. “My house almost burned down,” she said. “It came very, very close. My electricity and water and power are still off, but we were safe.”
The “Addams Family” actress dated Nicholson on-and-off from 1973 to 1990, during which they co-starred in the films “Prizzi’s Honor,” “The Last Tycoon” and “The Postman Always Rings Twice.”
Nicholson was unfaithful to Huston during their relationship. They broke up for good in 1990 after he fathered a child with another woman.
“I loved him,” Huston told The Guardian while reflecting on why she stayed with the “Chinatown” actor for so long despite his infidelity. “I think in the world that I was living in, it wasn’t disrespectful. It was how he was, and it wasn’t so personal.”
She continued, “I think as soon as I clocked that, it was all right, I knew how to protect myself. It didn’t make me happy, but I knew what I was doing.”
“I did what I wanted to do, and I did it with sureness,” Huston added. “If I wanted something, I knew how to go after it, so it wasn’t as though anything was being done to me. I wasn’t a wilting flower.”
Two years after splitting from Nicholson, Huston married sculptor Robert Graham. They stayed together until Graham’s death in 2008.
Nicholson, meanwhile, dated actress and model Rebecca Broussard for four years after his relationship with Huston ended. He later dated actress Lara Flynn Boyle from 1999 to 2004.
The Oscar winner has six children, including actors Lorraine Nicholson and Ray Nicholson, with five different women.
After retiring from acting in 2010, Nicholson made a rare public appearance at the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special last weekend.
He was one of the many celebs in the crowd, and briefly appeared on camera to introduce a musical act from Adam Sandler.
Nicholson has kept a low profile after his last film appearance in the 2010 rom-com “How Did You Know.”
