Formal season can be stressful to say the least.
All you want is to ensure that your child is happy, and gets exactly what they need to have a fun night and feel beautiful.
But, that isn’t always the case.
A Queensland formal store has gone viral after exposing a very angry mom on TikTok, and to say commenters were shocked is just the beginning.

“Can I speak to the manager?”
Formal store Gossip Gowns has taken to TikTok to expose a ‘Karen’ who stormed into their Queensland store in the height of formal season last year.
The experience, which the store labelled as a ‘scary encounter’ involved a mother who entered the store after finding out another student from her daughter’s school had taken her dream dress before her.
“Is there a manager here?” the woman began in the video.
“Apparently someone has already snuck in and taken her dress.”
Gossip Gowns, like many other similar formal stores, has a formal registry policy, wherein after someone purchases a dress, their name is taken down and no one else is able to buy the same dress from that store – to ensure there aren’t any double-ups.
According to the video, the woman had come in with her daughter to try on a dress, but then left to ‘have a think about her options’. Another child had come in in the meantime and snapped up the dress, which meant that she could no longer get her hands on it.
But, for this ‘Karen’, that explanation wasn’t quite good enough.
“Everyone knows she wanted the blue dress – they all talk about it,” the woman said.
“Some little sneak’s come in, and I want her to have the dress she’s always dreamed of, so we’ve got to make this right.”
The woman then demands to find out who the other girl is, suggesting she may be better off in a pink or a green, then after the staff say that would be against their policy, the woman begins to fire off threats.
“You’re going to lose a customer, I’m telling you,” she said.
“I know a lot of people, and I’ve got a lot of people with young girls coming through.”
“You handled this so well!”
Commenters on the post were floored by the footage, commending the young workers on how well they dealt with it on the spot.
“Hahahaha I can’t stop laughing but you guys handled that so well wow,” said one commenter.
“I’m so glad you got this recorded because that energy quickly gets channeled into complaints to your boss, negative reviews online etc. good to have a copy of the interaction,” said another.
“Omg! ‘I know a lot of people’ How embarrassing. BTW, you handled this so well,” a third agreed.

Apparently this happens a lot
Others thought the interaction was so obscure it may have even been staged. But, regardless, it’s absolutely still representative of the way people act in times of pressure like these.
“I live in Ky and worked at a bridal shop. We did NOT do a registry even tho a lot did and we had so many angry moms after prom that sounded like this because we sold someone else the same dress,” said one commenter.
“People like this actually exist and it’s mind boggling,” said another.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned about dealing with angry customers (especially when you’ve done nothing wrong) is to NEVER say sorry. Ever. If you say sorry they seem to think they have permission to go off,” a third person said.
“I worked in a school and the staff were all dragged into it because two girls had the same dress and there was an uproar,” another said.
Moral of the story, if you’ve got your heart set on a dress, get in early!
