Character actor John Capodice, whose several credits across film and television include General Hospital and Independence Day, has passed away. He was 83.
According to an obituary from the New Jersey Pizzi Funeral Home, Capodice passed away Monday (Dec. 30).
A cause of death was not revealed.
Capodice was known as a “a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him,” per his obituary.
His acting career began in 1978 with a small role as a pedestrian in Rush It, sparking a decades-long career that lasted as recently as 2023 when he voiced a role in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and appeared in Conversation with Mobster.
The most notable film credits of his career include Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Independence Day.
Capodice also starred in several memorable roles on television, with appearances in Wizards of Waverly Place, The West Wing, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, CSI, Diagnosis Murder, Angel, and many more.
Capodice once returned to his soap opera roots in 1994, starring in six episodes of General Hospital between 1994 and 1995. He played sporting goods store owner Carmine Cerullo who moved to Ports Mouth with his wife and daughter.
His character was later recast in 2024.
Prior to that, one of the first acting credits of his career was in six episodes of daytime soap Ryan’s Hope.
Before he began acting, Capodice also served in Korea with the US Army between 1964 to 1966.
Capodice is survived by his wife Jane, his daughters Cassandra Hansen and Tessa De Pierro, and his grandchildren.
