A major water main break in the Bronx caused severe flooding and left cars submerged in feet of water on Monday night, FDNY officials said.
The main burst around 7:30 p.m. on Webster Avenue between E. 201st Street and East Mosholu Parkway South in Bedford Park, according to the FDNY.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and attempted to open drains — but the water was spewing faster than the drains in the area could swallow it, ABC7 reported.
Photos and videos from the scene show parked cars sitting in water as high as the door handle.
Locals and first responders could be seen wading through water nearly up to their waist.
There were no injuries, FDNY confirmed.
The water didn’t enter any buildings, ABC 7 reported.
Neighborhood resident Joseph Parrom told the outlet his daughter was able to move her car to higher ground as water in the street began to rise rapidly.
“She had a neighbor move her car up the corner. They were lucky right there by the barbershop, and they were lucky to move,” he said.
Parrom said he was most concerned about fresh water, which had been shut down.
Crews are investigating the cause of the break.
