A cache of nearly two dozen high-powered guns was found stashed behind the walls of a Long Island man’s home, according to reports.
Todd Pinnell, 54, was arrested Friday evening after officers found the alarming arsenal hidden behind a “false wall” in a basement closet at his Lindhurst house, Suffolk police said.
The cache included 14 handguns and eight assault rifles, along with ammunition feeders, ABC 7 reported.
Four weapons known as ghost guns — firearms with no serial numbers on them, which are often sought by criminals hoping to hide their tracks — were also found.
“The number of weapons found could almost be said to be shocking to the conscience,” Judge Alonzo Jacobs said at a Saturday bail hearing, where Pinnell’s bail was set at $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.
The bail amount was over twice what prosecutors sought.
The alarming discovery came as police were conducting a parole sweep of Pinnell’s house.
He was previously arrested in 2023 and convicted for misdemeanor criminal weapons possession, according to Newsday.
Pinnell now faces 47 felony weapons charges.
His attorney argued he was little more than a “collector,” however, who had no criminal record prior to the 2023 arrest.
“He’s a gun enthusiast and he’s a range shooter,” attorney Anthony Grandinette told the court Saturday, adding that Pinnell has been “steadily employed in the security field with an expertise in fire management” for 10 years.
“His entire life with his grandfather, his father and his brother, he was involved with firearms in a legal capacity,” Grandinette added, explaining that the location of the weapons posed no threat to the public.
“Not one of these weapons was loaded,” the attorney said, “Obviously, all that tells you is that there was absolutely no intent in this case to use any of the firearms that were recovered.”
