Dwayne Wade and Jenna Bush Hager could barely keep it together on Today With Jenna & Friends when the NBA legend recounted one of his most humbling athletic experiences yet.
The co-hosts were offering advice to viewers when they came upon a question from a fan who wanted to call out their partner for being too “scared” to try skiing with them. Wade surprisingly sided with the viewer’s partner in this case, noting he had his own humbling experience when he went skiing with his wife, actress Gabrielle Union.
“Matt, I have to agree with you here. My wife wanted me to go skiing, I did not want to do it but I did it,” Wade began. “When I tell you I could not stand up.”
He continued, “I looked back at my wife one time when I was on the ground, the way she looked at me, it was the most unattractive I’ve ever felt. I went and got a massage and I went and got in the hot tub. I was like, ‘This is not for me.’”
Bush Hager could not hold back her laughter as Wade admitted, “The way that my wife looked at me, I was like, I don’t want to ever see her look at me like that again.”
The Today host then asked Wade to “describe” Union’s reaction to his inability to ski. “How would you describe the face, like, ‘Oh, I thought you were an athlete? You call yourself an athlete?’” she responded.
Wade attempted to defend himself. “I’m a great athlete. I got this build, I try to walk with a little swagger, but in that moment… My knees were shaking,” he admitted. “I kept falling over and she was just looking at me with just disgrace in her face, like, ‘You’re embarrassing me. I can’t believe you.’”
When Bush Hager asked if Union knew how to ski, Wade incredulously responded, “Yes she can! I didn’t even know! I’m like, ‘Where did you [learn]? You grew up in Nebraska!’”
The former Miami Heat player absolutely smashed his stint guest hosting Today With Jenna & Friends this week. So much so, even Bush Hager asked viewers to “put out some good vibes” to keep him on the show for longer during his final broadcast.
Next up, Today anchor Willie Geist and Jenna & Friends contributor Donna Farihan will guest host the show early next week, after which Brooke Shields will take over for the remainder of the week.
Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
