Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird were looking their best in New York City.
The couple posed for pictures in Central Park near Columbus Circle on Tuesday for a photo shoot.
The United States women’s soccer icon and basketball legend each wore gray tops, with Rapinoe showing off a “1985” tattoo on her chest during the shoot.
1985 happens to be the year the two-time World Cup winner was born.
The two were first connected in 2017, not long after they met during the 2016 Summer Olympics.
One year into dating, they posed together for ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue, becoming the first openly gay couple to do so.
“I think neither of us really wants to just do things and be like, ‘We’re the gay couple’,” Rapinoe told ESPN then. “But to have this really unique vehicle to actually do that, to celebrate who we are in our sport, but also the fact that we’ll be the first gay couple, is pretty special. It’s pretty amazing to think about, especially in the times we’re in. Just think of how far we’ve come, but also the current climate and defiance in the face of that. Not only are we female athletes, but we’re dating as well. It’s kind of badass.”
The two retired from their respective sports one year apart, with Bird hanging up her sneakers in 2022 and Rapinoe calling it a career in 2023.
Bird, a Syosset, New York native, finished as a 13-time WNBA All-Star and five-time Olympic gold medalist.
Rapinoe retired after playing in four World Cups, where she scored nine goals and tallied nine assists while helping the U.S. to two tournament wins.
