If there’s one thing Real Housewives are good at doing, it’s coming up with dinner-table games that stir the pot and ruin friendships. But before there was Heather Gay’s suggestion to read the nastiest texts the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City had ever sent about one another aloud, there was Marysol Patton‘s game of “Who Do You Trust the Least?” in The Real Housewives of Miami Season 4.
The game — which Patton used as a way to address her beef with Dr. Nicole Martin at the time — made for an iconic scene in the Bravo universe. In fact, it became so legendary that Michols Peña suggested playing it with his co-stars in a recent episode of Southern Hospitality.
“Duh! Come on,” Peña told DECIDER when asked if Patton was the inspiration behind the game, which resulted in a blowout argument between Maddi Reese and Grace Lilly.
Peña, who’s become a fan favorite since joining Southern Hospitality‘s third season, is well-versed on his Bravo knowledge. The assistant general manager at Leva Bonaparte‘s Republic Garden & Lounge is all caught up on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, The Real Housewives of Orange County, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (he’s Team Dorit Kemsley, in case you were wondering).
“I watch way more,” he said, naming Summer House and Vanderpump Rules as examples. “I’m into Million Dollar Listing, too. I go in deep. I watch almost all the Housewives.”
Being an avid Bravo watcher, Peña likely knew things wouldn’t end well when he came up with the idea to have everyone go around the table and name who they trusted the least out of the group during their cast trip to Las Vegas. Still, he said he was “gagged” when Reese and Lilly were the ones who started arguing as a result.
Things went downhill when Molly Moore said she’d never trust Lilly after hearing the ex-Republic employee had slept with Season 2 castmate Oisin O’Neill while he was talking to Reese’s roommate Eva, who won’t allow Lilly to come over to their place anymore. A screaming match ensued when Lilly accused Reese of not having her back in the situation, while Reese and the rest of their co-stars reminded Lilly just how much she’s been there for her over the years.
According to Peña, the game was “ten times [more] heated” than what viewers saw on TV.
“I wish that everybody got to see everybody else go around [and say who they trusted the least],” he said. “Because at first when I started the game, I was like, ‘You can’t say why [you don’t trust them].’ And then after it got to the third person, everybody started going like, ‘Why?’ And I was like, ‘You can’t say why!’”
While Peña tried to avoid naming who he trusted the least since he was the one who “started the game,” his friends told him he couldn’t “drop a bomb and walk away from it.” That’s when he became the first of the group to say Lilly’s name.
“And then everybody started saying Grace,” he recalled. “Then whenever Maddi and Grace got into it, that’s when the game just took a complete turn and I was like, ‘Oh, what did I do?’”
You made some great TV, Michols. That’s what you did. And we thank you for it.
New episodes of Southern Hospitality air on Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
