House Democrat: Trump ‘selling out Ukraine to Russia’

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said he thinks President Trump is “selling out” Ukraine to Russia in talks to end the three-year war.

Moulton joined CNN’s Erin Burnett on Monday evening, when she asked the lawmaker why Trump is willing to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a dictator but not Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Because Trump is selling out Ukraine to Russia, and this is just truly an unbelievable turn of events,” Moulton replied. “I mean, the fact that we’re three years into a war that at first, many people predicted wouldn’t happen, and then everyone predicted Russia would win in a few weeks, it’s absolutely remarkable that Ukraine has held on for three years.”

Trump, both on the campaign trail and during his first month back in office, has maintained that ending the war was a priority.

However, he has reversed course from former President Biden, who was a staunch ally of Ukraine. Trump blamed Zelensky for the war and argued it never would have happened if he were in office instead of Biden.

Trump called Zelensky a dictator who has done a poor job leading the country and has sidelined Ukrainian officials as he ramps up peace talks with Russia.

He’s made it clear that he is strengthening his relationship with Putin, causing bipartisan concern both for the region and broader international impacts, including with China.

Moulton expressed shock that the U.S. would be siding with Russia over the matter and criticized Trump for strengthening ties with Putin.

“What no one in the world ever imagined is that Ukraine would be betrayed to Russia by a President of the United States, but that’s what’s going on today,” he said.

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
