Xoxo, Gossip Girl.
SAG Awards 2025 host Kristen Bell revived her role as narrator of the beloved teen drama series for a hilarious skit that also featured her former co-star, Leighton Meester.
During Sunday’s award show, Bell’s “Gossip Girl” voice came over the loudspeaker and said, “Hey everyone, Gossip Girl here. One of my sources, Lainey86, sends me this: Spotted, at table 8, Jeff Goldblum has a wicked appetite and a peek behind the curtain reveals he likes his green eggs with ham.”
The “Wicked” star, 72, was shown in the audience looking confused over Bell’s comments.
“And look who it is, not-so-lonely boy Timothée Chalamet sitting next to a hot steak, medium rare, au poivre, with a side of broccoli,” Bell continued, as “The Complete Unknown” actor, 29, smirked from his seat.
The camera then cut to Bell reading the jokes off her phone while sitting in the audience next to Meester, 38.
“Leighton, none of this is gossip,” Bell told Meester. “It’s just all about food.”
“Sorry, I’m just really hungry,” Meester responded, as she nervously ate a piece of bread.
“The Popes in ‘Conclave’ were better at gossiping than us,” Bell joked. “I think we should pass the torch.”
“Amen,” Meester agreed.
Bell voiced Gossip Girl for all six seasons of the show that aired from 2007 to 2012, while Meester starred as Blair Waldorf alongside Blake Lively, Ed Westwick, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen and Kelly Rutherford.
In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Meester spoke about how “Gossip Girl” is still so popular with fans today.
“Now people are like, ‘It’s vintage,’” she said. “Or sometimes I’m like, ‘You weren’t born yet when we started.’ There’s a lot of that. Or even when we wrapped. There’s people who are just discovering it.”
“I do think it’s kind of incredible because of a time and place,” she continued. “There was no social media. I don’t even think it was happening — there was no such thing as that when we started. I think people are very nostalgic for that kind of thing because it’s just comfort for people. Whether they’ve seen it once or they want to try it for the first time.”
Since 2014, Meester has been married to Bell’s “Nobody Wants This” co-star Adam Brody.
Netflix recently announced that Meester landed a guest role in the second season of the comedy series. She’s playing Bell’s character Joanne’s “middle school nemesis” who she crosses paths with again as an adult.
“She will be there,” Bell said about Meester joining the show in a red carpet interview at the SAG Awards. “We are very excited.”
