President Trump will be making history Sunday evening by becoming the first sitting U.S. president to attend the Super Bowl. But late night host Jimmy Kimmel believes the former reality television star is only going to compete with the one celebrity in attendance who may have a bigger impact than him: Taylor Swift.
On Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, after Kimmel called Trump out for pretending “to be Christian to please his base,” he predicted the president will certainly not be attending church this coming Sunday in favor of watching the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs compete at the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
“The bad news blimp will be at the Super Bowl,” he joked.
Kimmel then said President Trump was attending to compete with Swift for camera time.
“He can’t stand to have even one day where he’s on TV less than Taylor Swift,” he said.
President Trump may have his work cut out for him. Swift will be attending the Super Bowl to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Her attendance at the Chiefs games have become quite the draw for viewers at home; a 2024 Numerator survey found that 20% of Super Bowl viewers tuning in rooted for the Chiefs because of Swift.
Kimmel also called the president out for congratulating himself after the Chiefs won the AFC earlier this month.
“Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Trump wrote in a TruthSocial post Kimmel shared on the show. “What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers. Likewise, congratulations to the Buffalo Bills on a tremendous season. They will do a lot of winning long into the future!!!”
The Live audience laughed as Kimmel pointed out, “That’s right. The real AFC champion is Donald Trump.”
The Super Bowl will be airing live Sunday, Feb. 9, on FOX beginning at 6:30/5:30c.
