Stewing about Stewart.
Drew Barrymore is addressing her uncomfortable exchange with Martha Stewart on her show — and insists that Stewart was only joking when she pushed her away after being “too touchy.”
“I think she was just teasing,” the 49-year-old talk show host told Andy Cohen during a recent episode of “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”
“I think the internet just misunderstood the moment and ran with it,” she continued.
The “50 First Dates” star went viral when Stewart, 83, pushed her away during an interview on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in Nov. 2024.
The two women were talking about what makes Stewart feel “soft and gooey” inside when being treated like a lady as the “Ever After” actor caressed her back and arm.
“You’re the wrong gender,” the cookbook author said, pushing Barrymore away quickly.
“I know … although, the way it’s going with men, though, Martha, I’m not so sure anymore,” Barrymore quipped at the time.
Barrymore told Cohen that she considers Stewart a friend, which she hasn’t said in the past.
“I’ve never been able to say this before with confidence, but I can now, I think Martha really does like me,” the “Charles Angels” star said.
“When I was first getting to know her, I was like, ‘I don’t think she likes me.’ But I think I broke through … she doesn’t dislike me,” she continued.
Barrymore is known for her touchy interview style — especially being “pupil to pupil.”
“And the reason for being pupil to pupil is…?” Cohen asked the “Blended” actor.
“I don’t know [why]. I can’t actually control it,” she replied.
Barrymore was previously called out for being “cringey” for holding Oprah Winfrey’s hand and stroking her arm during an interview in Dec. 2023.
Some viewers have warned Barrymore to be less physical during her interviews in the past, which includes holding guests’ hands and hugging them.
Barrymore revealed that she’s working on her “proximity” and trying to maintain a “physical distance” from guests during the fifth season of her show.
