Jon Berti didn’t appreciate the trash talk that came from the Dodgers clubhouse after Los Angeles defeated the Yankees in the World Series last October.
In fact, the disrespect crossed a line in Berti’s mind to the point that they were diminishing what the Yankees had done to reach the Fall Classic in the first place.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a World Series-winning team talk as badly as they did about the World Series-losing team,” Berti said on “Foul Territory” on Wednesday. “It felt like we were being disrespected to the point of we didn’t even belong in the World Series.”
Berti spent last season with the Yankees and played in four postseason games during the team’s run to the World Series.
The Dodgers toppled the Yankees in five games, with the Bronx Bombers struggling, especially defensively.
“We won a lot of games last year. We won our division,” Berti said. “We went and took care of Kansas City and took care of Cleveland. So we deserved to be there, unfortunately, we didn’t perform at our best.”
However, the Dodgers proved too tough an opponent for the Yankees to overcome.
Freddie Freeman’s bottom of the 10th walk-off grand slam prevented the Yanks from stealing a win in Game 1.
The Yankees did stave off a sweep with a Game 4 win at Yankee Stadium.
“Unfortunately we ran into a team that played better than us in a seven-game series and they deserved to win,” Berti said. “So I guess they can say whatever they want at this point.”
Berti will play this season in the Windy City after the infielder signed a one-year deal with the Cubs last week.
It will mark the fourth team he’s played for over the course of his MLB career, which included stops in Toronto, Miami and the Big Apple.
