Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) suggested Monday that President Trump and his administration does not care about the Constitution and argued her fellow Democrats need to push back “with the same type of energy.”
Crockett, a vocal critic of Trump and his allies, specifically criticized tech billionaire Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for reportedly gaining access to the Treasury Department’s payment systems.
The Texas lawmaker, who sits on the House Oversight panel, told CNN in an interview Monday that “right now we have an administration that could care less about what the courts say that they can do.”
“They could care less about what the law says. They could care less about the Constitution,” she continued. “And so I think that we have to understand that we are not dealing with normal people.”
“We are dealing with someone who has proven to be a criminal, proven to be disrespectful to us as Americans,” she added, referencing Trump.
Musk and his allies have also set their sights on the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), looking to shutter the agency that distributed some $30 billion on development, security and humanitarian aid to over 100 nations.
The SpaceX CEO said Trump agreed with him that USAID should be eviscerated and later, the president made Secretary of State Marco Rubio the acting administrator of the agency.
“And listen, we have to fight him the exact same way. We have to come back with the same type of energy, which means that if you want to play ball, then I‘m ready to play ball,” Crockett told CNN host Laura Coates.
“Listen, you guys decided to do this while the House was out,” she added Monday. “Well, the House is back in as of tomorrow, and I can guarantee you there will be some spicy things that I will be up to tomorrow because I am a duly elected member of the U.S. House, and we will have some things that we are trying to do.”
After forcing and firing dozens of top FBI officials and federal prosecutors who were involved in the cases involving the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, Crockett accused Trump of behaving like a “thug.”
She added at the time that he is “doing everything that he can to get rid of those checks and balances.”
