Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is holding a press conference Wednesday morning to respond to the Trump administration’s federal grant freeze.
The White House directed federal agencies on Monday evening to pause the disbursement of loans and grants while the government conducts a review to ensure spending aligns with President Trump’s agenda.
Democrats sounded the alarm over the memo, raising questions over its legality while tanking a vote to sanction the International Criminal Court in revolt. Democratic-led states have also signaled imminent legal action to block the freeze.
On Tuesday, a federal judge temporarily blocked the order, preserving federal disbursements until Monday at 5 p.m. EST. The pause came after a group of nonprofit and public health organizations filed a lawsuit against the administration.
Schumer’s remarks are expected to begin at 10:45 a.m. EST.
