Fox News anchor: 'Sobbing' Selena Gomez 'going for another Academy Award'

Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum suggested a video celebrity Selena Gomez posted online and quickly deleted decrying President Trump’s immigration plans was not sincere.

“The actress Selena Gomez going for, I guess, another Academy Award or Golden Globe nomination here, sobbing on Instagram earlier today about what she says she’s seeing out there and she talks about children getting attacked,” MacCallum said during her program on Monday.

MacCallum played a clip from the video, in which Gomez is seen in tears saying “all my people are getting attacked” in reference to Trump’s plans to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.

Gomez later deleted the video.

“She took that off Instagram … but she said, ‘Apparently it’s not okay to show empathy for people,’ ” MacCallum said, asking guest and former Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan (Ohio) about the episode. “And we’ve seen some of this backlash from other folks, and on ‘The View’ as well. But then we hear, you know, governors in Massachusetts and in Colorado saying, ‘Well, you know, so far we’re okay with the people that you’ve kicked out of the country. Thank you very much.”

MacCallum’s comment was first highlighted by Mediate.

Gomez has been outspoken on immigration in the past, writing in a 2019 op-ed for Time that the issue “goes beyond politics” and “is a human issue.”
