One of the most anticipated books of the entire year, “Onyx Storm” by Rebecca Yarros, is already here — and it’s only January.
“Onyx Storm” is the third book in Yarros’ Empyrean series that began with 2023’s “Fourth Wing” and continued with “Iron Flame.” The saga follows 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail, a student at Basgiath War College striving to become a dragon rider. After surviving her first year, her real training begins as war looms ever closer.
The second book in the romantasy series was released in May 2024, so it’s safe to say readers have been waiting a while for this one. But with anticipation comes another thing: long library waitlists.
If you’re the kind of person who relies solely on the library (or the library’s digital equivalent, Libby), it might be months before you get to read the book everyone’s talking about now.
When looking at Libby, we found that the New York Public Library didn’t even have e-copies of “Onyx Storm” at the time of publication. Queens Public Library cardholders will have to wait “several months” as there are 1,624 holds on just 20 copies; Brooklyn Public Library has more copies (150), but 1,599 holds. It still equals a 22-week wait.
Let us let you in on a money-saving secret that’ll let you read “Onyx Storm” now.
Right now, Audible (the audiobook platform from Amazon) is running a deal that’ll get you three audiobooks over three months for just $0.99/month. That’s right — you can read “Onyx Storm” for a dollar (plus two other books!). However, Audible’s classic one-month free trial is also available, so you can choose the discounted starter plan that works best for you.
Either way, you won’t pay more than $1 for “Onyx Storm” and you can start reading it today.
