Cameron Diaz will do ‘Mask’ sequel on 1 condition

Tina Carlyle is ready for a comeback.

Cameron Diaz confirmed that she’s interested in returning for a sequel to the 1994 Jim Carrey movie “The Mask” — but on one major condition.

“If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one,” she said in an interview with Access Hollywood.

Directed by Chuck Russell, “The Mask” stars Carrey, 63, as Stanley Ipkiss, a bank clerk who finds a magical mask that transforms him into a green troublemaker. Diaz, 52, plays nightclub singer Tina Carlyle, who falls for The Mask.

Carrey recently addressed the possibility of a sequel in an interview with ComicBook.com

“Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea,” he said last month. “If somebody had the right idea, I guess. It’s not really about the money.”

“I joke about the money, but I never know,” the comedian continued. “You can’t be definite about these things. I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting. Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just — things tend to change.”

“The Mask” was Diaz’s breakout role. She followed that up with countless popular movies including “There’s Something About Mary,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “The Holiday,” “What Happens in Vegas,” “Bad Teacher” and the “Shrek” franchise.

Diaz retired from acting in 2014, but she just returned to the spotlight in her and Jamie Foxx’s new Netflix movie “Back in Action.”

In the Access Hollywood interview, Diaz opened up about the joy she felt coming back to Hollywood.

“I have always felt that making movies was a privilege. I’ve always felt that way for the decades that i got to make films. Even in the time that I took off, it wasn’t lost on me that I was apart of this,” she said.

“And coming back and knowing that I get to work at this level making a film again that’s an option to me. I feel so honored and privileged to be able to come back to work with Jamie and make a film of this caliber and put it on Netflix which is this massive platform and everyone’s gonna get to see it, I feel so privileged to be able to do that and it’s not lost on me,” Diaz added.

She also confirmed that she “never” second-guessed her choice to step away from acting.

“Oh my God, I loved it. It was the best 10 years of my life,” she recently said on “The Graham Norton Show.”

“I was just free to just say, ‘I’m a mom, I’m a wife, I’m living my life.’”

The star shares two children with husband Benji Madden.
