Jahmyr Gibbs tried trolling Kevin Durant after a touchdown run, but the Suns star — and Commanders fan — delivered the final jab after Washington’s stunning 45-31 win over the Lions in the NFC Divisional Round Saturday.
Gibbs, who accounted for two touchdowns during Detroit’s loss, mimicked how Durant danced in the tunnel before Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals after reaching the end zone and giving Detroit an early 7-0 lead.
But as clips capturing the similarities between the dances spread on X, Durant wrote, “I’m already sick of @Jahmyr_Gibbs1 . Move around somewhere bro damn.”
Then, after the Commanders advanced to the NFC Championship game, Durant added another post on social media that read, “Have a great night Detroit” and included the clip of him dancing before the Warriors faced the Raptors six years ago.
Durant, a Washington, D.C. native, also ended up celebrating with the Commanders postgame since the Suns played the Pistons in Detroit earlier Saturday.
Clad in a No. 8 jersey, Durant posed for a photo with running back — and No. 8 — Brian Robinson Jr., and told owner Josh Harris, “Two more wins,” before adding, “That was the biggest win since I became a Commanders fan.”
Durant poured in 36 points and helped the Suns top the Pistons at Little Caesars Arena and move above .500 during their 4 p.m. game, and then shift a ½-mile to Ford Field to join the postgame festivities in the locker room — even saying, “Put your buffs on,” in an Instagram video with Commanders cornerback Mike Sainristil.
With the win, Washington advances to face the winner of the No. 2-seed Eagles and No. 4-seed Rams in the NFC Championship game next weekend — their first time being one of the NFL’s final four teams since 1991, when the Commanders eventually won the Super Bowl two victories later.
Gibbs, who collected 1,412 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns during the regular season while playing a major role in the NFL’s top offense, finished with 105 yards on 14 carries against Washington.
He didn’t unveil the Durant dance again after recording his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter and helping the Lions trim their deficit to three points with an eight-yard run.
