Here today, gone tomorrow.
During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Savannah Guthrie, 54 joked that she threw away Hoda Kotb’s “s–t” after the latter left the “Today” show last week.
Guthrie recalled finding assorted odds and ends that her former co-anchor left behind.
“It’s a new era. It’s the Craig era,” Guthrie said, referring to how Craig Melvin is replacing Kotb.
“We go in and we sit on the set and there are these trays,” Guthrie joked, explaining that in the trays for their personal items, Kotb had left, “like, one contact and, like, expired bean dip and, like, belly button lint. So we just threw it right out!”
Fallon played a video Guthrie recorded for Kotb, 60, as she tossed out the items.
In the footage, Guthrie can be seeing quipping, “Guess you didn’t want any of this s–t,” before trashing the goods.
“Look at the tray … it had rust and barnacles on it. I mean, it was disgusting!” Guthrie told Fallon.
Kotb announced she would be leaving “Today” back in September after 26 years with NBC.
Guthrie and Kotb anchored “Today” together since 2017, after Matt Lauer got fired over sexual harassment allegations.
At the time, Kotb explained that her decision to leave happened after turning 60, as she wanted to spend more time with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5.
She’ll also kickstart her own wellness app and company, which will include trips and podcasts, and has signed a new deal with NBC to contribute exclusive interviews and cover the next two Olympics.
“I just turned 60, and it was such a monumental moment for me, because I started thinking about that decade,” she said on “Today” in September.
“I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and to try something new.”
When Kotb announced her exit, Guthrie took it the hardest.
“No one is taking the news worse than Savannah Guthrie,” Melvin said on air in September.
She officially bid farewell to her “Today” co-hosts on Jan. 10.
“Can I just say thank you? I haven’t been able to articulate it, because I’m a mess most times, but I just want to say thanks,” Kotb said through tears on her final episode.
“Hoda, I love you. I love you deeply,” Guthrie said. “Like I always tell you: Whether you sit next to me or not, whether we get up at 4 a.m. or not. I will always be by your side and you will always be by mine.”
Al Roker added, “She’s probably one of the most selfless people I know. I was gravely ill. I never had any idea how sick I was. I was in the hospital and Hoda was there if not every day then almost every day. It got the point where I think people actually thought she was a doctor.”
During the broadcast, viewers were also seen holding up signs outside wishing Kotb good luck and noting they’d miss her.
Melvin even suggested that the window behind the “Today” desk should be named the “Hoda Window.”
