Who Is Miss Huang On ‘Severance’? Meet Sarah Bock

After an agonizing three-year wait, Apple TV+‘s hit workplace thriller Severance is back for Season 2 — but things look a lot different at Lumon this time around thanks to a number of new characters.

In addition to many returning Severance favorites, Season 2 will feature several fresh faces including Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merrit Wever, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, and John Noble. Plus, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, who plays Mr. Drummond, is joining as a series regular, alongside Sarah Bock, who plays the one, the only Miss Huang.

Who is Miss Huang on Severance? And what do we know about Sarah Bock, the actor who plays her? Here’s everything to know about Season 2’s suspiciously young deputy manager, including quotes about Bock from Severance creator/EP/writer Dan Erickson and co-star Tramell Tillman.

Who Is Miss Huang On Severance?

When we first laid eyes on Miss Huang in the Severance Season 2 trailer, we had the exact same thought as Balaban’s character, Mark W: “Why are you a child?”

We learned that after Lumon fired Ms. Cobel (Patricia Arquette) in Season 1, Mr. Milchick (Tramell Tillman) took over as manager of the severed floor, and Huang serves as his deputy manager. Aside from her “because of when I was born” response to the question about her age, however, it’s initially unclear why Lumon would employ someone so young.

Until we learn more, here’s what we know about the curious new character, courtesy of Bock herself: “Miss Huang does whatever Milchick tells her to do, whether she wants to or not. The way she’s been taught, she’s very opinionated and strong-willed.

As for casting Bock, Erickson told Decider that she’s an “incredible” actor. “With Miss Huang, we wanted to throw in a new character on the management side who would really throw any characters off their game,” the creator told Decider via Zoom. “We talked a lot about the fact that they, experientially, are sort of like children in that they haven’t been around very long. So in a way, Miss Huang is coming in, and she’s a child, which is — you’re like, why? Why would Lumon do that? But in a way, she’s mentally older than they are. So it’s a strange dynamic where they’re never quite sure what to do with her or how to react to her.”

Erickson teased Bock’s Season 2 performance a bit, explaining, “[She’s] so good at the smiling, corporate thing. But then when you cross her, something changes. Suddenly something opens up and reveals this sort of dark chasm underneath. And it’s really scary.”

In regards to ball game shown in the Season 2 trailer, Erickson said, “I remember sitting back watching the monitor when they shot that scene in the kitchenette. And all of us had to lean back a little bit, because it was suddenly so intense. But that’s the magic of the show.”

Tillman, who plays Miss Huang’s boss on the series, also raved about Bock calling her “a wonderful human being” who’s “incredibly talented and a whiz at Wordle.”

Who Plays Miss Huang On Severance? Meet Sarah Bock

While we wait to see more of Miss Huang’s Severance journey, here’s what to know about Sarah Bock, the 18-year-old actor who plays her. Per Apple TV+’s Season 2 production notes, Bock was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has been acting since she was young. “From the age of five, Bock immersed herself in theater, but it was watching Matilda the Musical on Broadway at eight that really sparked her desire to pursue acting professionally,” Bock’s bio reads. Bock landed her first acting role at age 12 in a production of Annie and has four IMDb credits, which include voice acting.

“Beyond acting, she excels in tennis, music composition, dance, and culinary arts. Bock aspires to contribute further to causes related to the environment and social justice, aligning with her lifelong passions and values,” Bock’s Severance bio reads. Per Instagram, the Season 2 star is set to graduate Northwestern University in 2028 and had around 2,000 followers ahead of the January 17 premiere. We anticipate Severance fans are going to race to learn more about the talented young actor, so that number will probably spike soon! To keep up with Bock outside of the series, you can follow her on Instagram at @sarah_bock. And be sure to tune in to new episodes of Severance to learn more about Miss Huang.

Severance Season 2 premieres on January 17 with new episodes streaming every Friday.
