Knicks haven’t earned spot in championship contender conversation

You ask the Knicks — all of them, but most animatedly KAT — and they’re incredulous.

For the guys who’ve been grinding out victories in roughly ⅔ of the games, the idea they hadn’t beaten anybody yet is probably offensive.

“Damn, we’re moving the posts like that,” Karl-Anthony Towns said when reminded they hadn’t beaten a top-4 team before Friday’s showdown against the Thunder. “We’re in third!”

I get it. Beyond it being dismissive of their accomplishments, there’s a message to uphold. It’s a creed adopted by Tom Thibodeau and likely hammered into the brains of every Knick player like they’re longtime local TV viewers and it’s the Cellino & Barnes jingle.
