Live coverage: Trump to speak to reporters; Capitol prepares for Carter

President-elect Trump is set to make remarks Tuesday morning, a day after his election was certified in Congress and in a week that will end with a sentencing hearing in his New York hush money case.

The comments, scheduled for 11 a.m. at Mar-a-Lago, also come amid his legal team’s request to Attorney General Merrick Garland that he block the release of special counsel Jack Smith’s final report on Trump’s election interference and classified documents cases.

Smith responded to the request by saying the release, should it happen, would not come before Trump’s sentencing.

Back in Washington, the funeral events for former President Carter shift from Georgia, where he has been lying in repose, to the Capitol, where he will lie in state. Vice President Harris and congressional leaders will honor Carter in the Rotunda at 3 p.m.

House Republicans and Democrats are meeting Tuesday morning, and the chamber is expected to vote on the Laken Riley Act in the afternoon. In the Senate, Trump’s intelligence director nominee, Tulsi Gabbard, is expected to be meeting with senators.

Follow along all day for developments on these stories and more.
