Fifty-two percent of Americans said that President Trump will try to serve a third term, according to a new poll from YouGov.
When asked if they believe the president “will attempt to serve a third term” in his current role, 21 percent of respondents said “definitely” and 31 percent said “probably.” At a Black History Month event last week, Trump brought up the idea of taking a shot at a third term.
“Should I run again? You tell me,” Trump said at the time.
Trump is constitutionally restricted from another White House victory, with presidents not allowed to “be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
When the president posted on his Truth Social platform last week that New York was “saved” following his administration’s announcement that it would rescind a congestion pricing proposal, he also added “LONG LIVE THE KING!”
Sixteen percent in the YouGov poll said the president is “probably not” going to attempt to serve a third term in his current role, while 18 percent said he is “definitely not” going to do so.
An amendment to the Constitution was recently proposed by Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) that would allow a third Trump election victory so the U.S. “can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs.”
The YouGov poll featured 2,900 people and took place on Feb. 25.
