‘Why minimal carbs for a growing boy?’

A controversial fitness influencer has sparked debate over the content’s of her five-year-old son’s “healthy” lunch box.

Sarah Stevenson – known to her million-strong social media following as Sarah’s Day – shared a TikTok of what her son, Fox Ocean, takes with him to eat at preschool.

“Lets (sic) make my 5 year olds healthy lunch box for preschool!” the 31-year-old captioned the clip.

The lunch box included curried eggs, sticks of cucumber and carrot, a portion of low-sugar high-protein blueberry yoghurt, pumpkin seeds, a Babybel cheese, avocado, fresh fruit, and a single five-seed cracker.

“This is everything he eats in a day at preschool, the only change next week is no Babybel cheese,” she said in a voiceover, explaining her son no longer likes it.

But, the lunch left her followers divided – taking to the comments section to remark on the “minimal” amount of carbs Stevenson had included.

“Why not the egg salad in a sandwich he has like no carbs lol,” one wrote.

“Delish. Just wonder why there is minimal carbs for a growing boy?” another questioned.

“I am not trying to judge you, I am really curious. Are you actually giving 4 eggs for lunch to your 5 year old?” a third said.

Others wondered how Stevenson was able to send eggs to school with Fox, given they couldn’t pack them in their own kids’ lunch boxes “because of allergies” among other students.

Some praised Stevenson for getting her son to eat such a varied range of healthy food.

“What a great lunch box. How do you get your toddler to eat vegetables, my 4 yr (sic) old has gone completely off all vegetables (only likes pumpkin)! Any tips would be very helpful,” one mum commented.

In an accompanying caption, Stevenson wrote that she “acknowledges and respects” her son’s food preferences, insisting he “enjoys” eating the lunch she packs for him.

“I have shared quite a bit of our food journey as a family and how I have encouraged my kids to not only eat, but truly ENJOY healthy foods,” Stevenson, who shares another son, Malakai Koa, with her husband, said.

“All of this has begun from the day that I introduce solids through baby led weaning.

“I acknowledge and respect my son’s different taste preferences, foods they dislike and cuisines they gravitate towards and have always maintained an open conversation about what whole, healthy foods do for our body and why we are so blessed to eat such nourishing foods!”
