Being the son of one of the most controversial and outspoken conservatives in Congress doesn’t come easy – just ask Tyler Boebert.
The Colorado teen is the eldest son of Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert and her ex-husband, Jayson. He made headlines in 2023 when he became a dad at just 18 – and is now staring down a hefty list of charges related to a string of alleged thefts.
Rep. Boebert’s office did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for a comment on the allegations – but it’s far from the family’s first time in hot water.
Tough beginnings
Tyler was born in March 2005, when the future congresswoman was 18, Business Insider reported.
Just two months before Tyler’s birth, Jayson Boebert was arrested and charged with indecent exposure and lewd conduct for allegedly exposing himself to two women at a local bowling alley.
He pleaded guilty and served four days behind bars with two years’ probation.
Lauren Boebert, meanwhile, dropped out of high school to raise her son.
“I was a brand-new mom, and I had to make hard decisions on successfully raising my child, or getting to high school biology class. And I chose to take care of my child,” she told the Durango Herald in 2020 of the decision.
Tyler now has three younger brothers, according to his mom’s congressional website, while posts from Lauren Boebert’s social media indicate he attended Rifle High School in Rifle, Colo.
The teen was pictured campaigning alongside his mom in November 2020, one Instagram post showed.
A few months later, in April 2021, he was snapped alongside the rest of his family visiting Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
Trouble with the law
Tyler Boebert had his first brush with law enforcement when he was issued a careless driving resulting in bodily injury ticket in September 2022, Westword reported.
The then-17-year-old was behind the wheel of his dad’s car when it flipped into a creek bed, injuring his 19-year-old pal, Noble D’Amato, the outlet explained.
D’Amato – who was hospitalized with multiple concussions and severe hand lacerations – later slammed the Boebert family for downplaying the wreck.
“My thumb almost got cut off. It prevented me from getting a welding job, because I can’t hold a TIG torch anymore. I’m a personal-care provider now,” he lamented to Westword.
Tyler’s initial citation was eventually dropped to a “defective headlights” ticket, the outlet noted.
As part of a plea deal, Tyler had to complete the “Alive at 25” program.
The court issued a bench warrant for the teen when he failed to report to his court appearance in the case, and he later called to reschedule the meeting for a virtual conference.
Tyler also reportedly submitted proof that he completed the “Alive at 25” source, Westword said.
Teen parenthood
In May 2023, Lauren Boebert revealed that Tyler and his girlfriend were expecting a baby boy – making her a grandmother at the ripe old age of 36.
The Colorado firebrand raised eyebrows when she used the announcement to praise “rural conservative communities” for their higher teen pregnancy rates.
“Teen moms’ rates are higher in rural conservative areas because they understand the preciousness of a life that it’s about to be born,” she insisted.
The following month, Boebert confirmed that Tyler and his girlfriend – who has not been named publicly – had welcomed their son into the world.
Family strife
Lauren Boebert filed for divorce from Jayson in May 2023. The proceedings were finalized in October of that year.
In early January, Jayson Boebert was arrested for allegedly shoving Tyler and digging his thumb into the teen’s mouth during a fight at his home.
Deputies arrived at the residence after Tyler told the 911 dispatcerh that his father was drunk and had a rifle.
Jayson Boebert was allegedly upset that his son was lying on a bed with a laundry basket full of clothes and grabbed the teen’s phone before allegedly assaulting him, according to a warrant obtained by The Post at the time.
The troubling incident came only three days after Jayson and Lauren were caught fighting at a restaurant.
Earlier this month, the Republican congresswoman was granted a temporary restraining order against Jayson for herself and the couple’s three minor sons.
Because Tyler is an adult, he is not covered by the order.
Latest trouble
Tyler was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and slapped with 22 criminal charges – including five felony counts of criminal possession of ID documents with multiple victims, and one conspiracy count, police said.
The younger Boebert is also looking at four misdemeanor counts of first-degree criminal trespassing of an automobile with intent to commit a crime, four charges of identity theft, possession with intent to use, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
When reached by The Post Wednesday, the Rifle Police Department declined to elaborate on the teen’s alleged crimes or the circumstances of his arrest.
