Several new faces will be joining Wednesday Season 2 ahead of production beginning in Ireland this month. But one series regular will not be returning to the show.
Per Variety, Wednesday released the official cast for Season 2, which features several familiar names and notes which actors have been upped to series regulars ahead of the new season. But actor Percy Hynes White was noticeably missing from the list, signifying that he has likely been dropped amid the sexual assault allegations that were made against him on social media in 2023.
Hynes White starred as Xavier Thorpe, a classmate and potential love interest of Jenna Ortega’s titular role. The actor was also set to star opposite Ortega in an upcoming rom-com, titled Winter Spring Summer or Fall.
Reports from last fall claim his character was “written out” of the new season amid the allegations.
According to Variety, the accuser published the allegations on social media, writing, “He would pursue, have sex with, abuse and get my friend high who was 13/14 at the time. Last time I knew they had sex she was 16 and he was 20. He assaulted me at one of those parties awhile I was too drunk, and he had cornered and pressured and assaulted multiple of my friends.”
Hynes White denied the accusations, calling it “a campaign of misinformation.”
“Earlier this year, somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online,” he wrote at the time. “Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats.”
“The rumors are false. I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people’s safety,” he said at the time. “These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims.”
A source close to the family also said it was “a disgrace” for Netflix to drop the actor.
“Percy is wonderful young man, that’s the truth,” they said. “He never took part in any of the false claims again him, which were on Twitter and never followed up or substantiated.”
While Hynes White will not be returning to the show, several notable stars will be joining the cast as series regulars or making guest appearances in Season 2, including Steve Buscemi, Billle Piper, Christopher Lloyd, Haley Joel Osment, and many more.
