While it was a rough night for the Angels on Saturday, Vanessa Hudgens was hyped about her husband’s first appearance as an MLB pitcher.
Cole Tucker, a utility player, was called upon to pitch the eighth inning with the Angels trailing the Mariners 9-0 in Seattle, as Ron Washington sought to save his bullpen.
The 27-year-old made it through the inning without giving up a run, starting the frame by making a leaping grab on a J.P. Crawford chopper for the first out.
“I mean find urself a man who does it all,” Hudgens, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child, wrote on her Instagram Story, according to People.
Tucker gave up a single and a walk before getting Seby Zavala to ground into an inning-ending double play.
After spending last season in the Rockies organization, appearing in just five MLB games, Tucker spent spring training this year with the Mariners, who cut him in mid-March.
According to The Athletic, Seattle offered Tucker a coaching job before his departure but he wanted to continue playing, and less than a month later he signed a minor-league deal with the Angels, who called him up to the majors on April 29.
Tucker went 10-for-32 with two doubles and a homer for Triple-A Salt Lake before getting called up when Aaron Hicks was released, but he’s hitting just .195 with a .594 OPS in 17 games with the Angels.
A first-round pick by the Pirates in 2014, Tucker made his MLB debut with Pittsburgh in 2019 but has yet to establish himself in the majors.
He has a career .214 batting average and .585 OPS with five home runs in 526 plate appearances.
Tucker and Hudgens, 35, got married in December.
Hudgens debuted her baby bump at the Oscars in March.
