Trump to announce VP pick at Republican convention

Former President Trump plans to announce his pick for vice president at the Republican national convention in July, as suspense builds over which GOP figure Trump will choose to join him on his 2024 ticket.

“Are you going to tell me who your vice presidential choice is?” television host Dr. Phil McGraw asked Trump in an hour-long interview released last week.

“I can’t yet, but we have some very good people. I’m going to do it in the convention,” Trump said.

The former president had previously hinted that there was a “good chance” he announces his running mate at the Milwaukee convention, slated for July 15-18.

He hinted at the same plan to Fox News last week, saying “I think I’ll announce who that person’s going to be during the convention.”

“I think that’s pretty normal — during the convention, it will be an interesting period of time,” Trump told “Hannity.”

Speculation is intensifying over which names are at the top of Trump’s rumored shortlist as the convention nears.

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R) and Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) have all reportedly received recent vetting requests from the Trump campaign.

Trump, though, has just been convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in his historic trial in New York — and he’s set to face sentencing on July 11, just days before the convention kicks off.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has said it’s planning for the possibility that the former president — the party’s presumptive nominee — is jailed during the convention.
