Former President Trump is offering to give CBS News an interview to air before Super Bowl LVIII this weekend after President Biden declined the traditional sit-down.
“Crooked Joe Biden has just announced that he will not be doing the big Super Bowl Interview,” Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, wrote Monday on his Truth Social website. “A great decision, he can’t put two sentences together. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO REPLACE HIM – would be “RATINGS GOLD!”
The network confirmed over the weekend that the White House declined to make Biden available for an interview before the big game.
The sitting president has typically participated in an interview with the news division of the network broadcasting the Super Bowl, though both Biden and Trump have previously skipped it.
Last year, Biden declined to sit for an interview with Fox News, and Trump decided against participating in an interview with NBC in 2018.
This year’s Super Bowl, held Sunday in Las Vegas between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, is expected to be watched by tens of millions around the world.
