Trump Accuses Democrats Of Running A ‘Gestapo Administration’

Former President Donald Trump compared the Biden administration and its allies to the Nazi regime’s secret police while speaking to donors at a private event at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida over the weekend, where he appeared on stage with potential running mates and other supporters.

The New York Times and Washington Post said they obtained audio of the remarks in which Trump claimed the Democrats, led by President Joe Biden, are coordinating the various federal and state-level indictments he is fighting against while running another campaign for the White House in this year’s election.

“These people are running a Gestapo administration,” Trump said. “And it’s the only thing they have. And it’s the only way they’re going to win, in their opinion, and it’s actually killing them. But it doesn’t bother me.”

Trump is on trial in a 2016 election “hush-money” case in New York brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. He also faces charges in a 2020 election case based in Georgia spearheaded by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, a 2020 election case and a classified documents case led by special counsel Jack Smith.

In the criminal matters, as well as in civil litigation regarding his business and personal affairs, Trump has denied any wrongdoing. In addition to pleading not guilty to dozens of charges, Trump has claimed that prosecutors are engaged in a politically motivated “witch hunt” against him.

Both Trump and Biden are seeking a second term, paving the way to a 2020 rematch, with some different factors this time around, such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also running a presidential campaign as an independent and getting double-digit support in some polls.

During his remarks, Trump described the Democrats as cheaters who use welfare to gain votes and disparaged Smith as “unattractive” among some expletives. He also mocked Willis over the relationship she had with a now-former prosecutor that threatened to derail their case against Trump.

CNN reported that Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer issued a statement responding to Trump’s speech, claiming the remarks underscored “what we already knew: Trump’s campaign is about him. His fury, his revenge, his lies, and his retribution.”
