Jason Kelce isn’t looking to hang up his cleats for good just yet.
The Philadelphia Eagles center has been hit with endless retirement rumors following the Eagles’ wild-card loss to the Buccaneers this week.
But according to his brother and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Jason still has “some football left” in him.
“It came out that he retired, and he really didn’t say any of that,” Travis, 34, told reporters during a press conference on Friday.
“The end of that game, I think everybody kind of felt for him, knowing that he has been thinking about it a lot over the past couple of years. The documentary shows that. You don’t need to go around and ask anybody.”
“It’s been cool to see everybody appreciate who he’s been over the years this past week, but I think the big guy still got some football left if he wants it,” the two-time Super Bowl champ added.
When discussing the aftermath of the Eagles’ loss, Jason revealed Wednesday on his “New Heights” podcast what he told teammates.
“I didn’t announce what I was doing on purpose, despite, I guess, what’s been leaked to the media,” Jason said to Travis amid reports he told teammates Monday he intends to retire.
“I just don’t think you’re in a position after a game like that to really make that decision, I just don’t, there’s too much emotion in the moment, there’s too much going down in the moment to really fully grasp that decision.”
“I don’t know, that’s one of the beautiful things about the off-season, it’s unscheduled. So, you know, obviously, my brother’s still in the playoffs. I don’t get to watch him play very often, maybe I’ll get an opportunity to go watch one of those games this week,” Jason added.
Jason, who has spent his entire 13-year career in Philadelphia, noted he’s “not trying to be dramatic and continue to draw this thing out,” but has envisioned what a possible announcement would entail.
“When it’s time to officially announce what’s happening in the future, it’ll be done in a way that’s definitive and pays respect to a lot of people and individuals that have meant a lot to me and what has led to the career I’ve had, and I don’t think it would be respectful or even accurate to be able to do that right after a game like that,” the 36-year-old Super Bowl champion added.
Kelce was visibly upset on the Eagles’ sideline Monday night in Tampa as the final seconds ticked away in Philadelphia’s disappointing 32-9 loss.
