Travis Kelce addresses shooting at Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade

Travis Kelce is “heartbroken” after at least 22 people were shot and two were killed during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade on Valentine’s Day in Kansas City, Mo.

“I am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me,” the tight end wrote on X hours after the tragic shooting.

The team’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, previously revealed he was safe, posting on X that he was “Praying for Kansas City… 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.”

Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, also took to social media to condemn the violence Wednesday.

“Shooting people is never the answer,” the mom of two wrote on her Instagram Story. “Praying for Kansas City & America in general, this is rough.”

She continued that she’s “highly embarrassed” and “disappointed” by the shooting, saying that Super Bowl wins would will never be the same.

“Horrible and traumatizing,” she added.

The Kansas City Chiefs organization also sent out an official statement, saying they were “truly saddened by the senseless act of violence” that occurred at the conclusion of the parade, which was in celebration of their victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 2024.

“Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City,” they added.

The shooting at Union Station left two people dead — officials confirmed the first in a press conference following the parade, while the latter was reported by the Kansas City Star.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves confirmed no NFL players or coaches were among the injured.

Taylor Swift, who celebrated the Chiefs’ victory with Kelce Sunday night, was not present at the victory parade, as she is traveling to Australia for her Eras Tour.

In an earlier update, Graves applauded officers for detaining two armed people and showing bravery amid the chaos of the shooting.

“I’m so proud of them that they ran into danger, getting two people into custody, and at the same time rendering life-sustaining aid to those victims,” she stated.

In a later update, she revealed three people had been detained.

The Kansas City Fire Department said at the time that three victims were in critical condition, one was listed as unstable and five others suffered serious injuries.

Graves added that she did not believe any victims were children.

The department originally posted on X at 3:02 p.m. ET that shots had been fired and urgently encouraged people to evacuate the area.

The Kansas City Chiefs paraded their way through their beloved city after winning Super Bowl LVIII Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.

Super Bowl 2024 marks the team’s third Super Bowl win since 2020.
