A wild scene broke out in Turkey on Sunday as soccer fans stormed the pitch in an attempt to attack the opposing team as they celebrated a win.
The chaos occurred after Fenerbahce defeated Trabzonspor 3-2 in a dramatic Turkish Süper Lig match that saw the game-winning goal come in the 87th minute.
While Fenerbahce began celebrating at midfield, the Trabzonspor fans loudly booed and then some started to jump onto the field and charge toward the Fenerbahce players.
One fan dressed in black came running toward the team and attempted to square up with several players and other team staff, with several people reporting on X that the man appeared to have some sort of weapon in his hand.
What appeared to be Fenerbahce security was able to wrestle the fan to the ground and it looked as though several players were able to get shots in on the fan before being pulled away.
However, the situation only got uglier from there.
More fans then jumped onto the pitch as stadium security attempted to try and get a handle on the situation, but it only grew more volatile as players were forced to defend themselves as the soccer hooligans continued to invade.
Eventually, Fenerbahce was forced to retreat to the locker room as the situation devolved to dangerous levels.
Another video posted online showed keeper Dominik Livaković having an unknown object thrown at him before a fan came out of nowhere and punched him in the head.
The incident was another black eye for Turkey’s top soccer league after another incident made international news in December.
Süper Lig was paused for one week after Ankaragucu’s president Faruk Koca punched a referee in the face after a match.
Koca resigned over the incident and a Turkish court ordered his arrest.
