We’re not sure if money exchanged hands, but Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager placed their bets on the Super Bowl during Friday’s broadcast of Today With Hoda & Jenna, and some of their predictions may surprise you.
The hosts bet on multiple factors from the upcoming game, such as Reba McEntire‘s performance of the National Anthem, or Usher‘s highly anticipated halftime show. But the “Hoda & Jenna Bet On It” segment started off on a very tense note when Bush Hager – who is known for being competitive – announced that she won last year when they did the same segment.
“You’re just declaring yourself the victor? I don’t see proof of that,” Kotb replied, but Bush Hager maintained her point, saying, “I’m pretty sure I did!”
The first outcome they bet on was whether McEntire’s performance of the National Anthem will be over or under 90.5 seconds. Kotb immediately predicted it would be “over” 90.5 seconds, causing Bush Hager to ask, “Do I have to say over?”
“No, you can say under if you like,” Kotb replied.
But Bush Hager still predicted that it would be over. “Are you just doing that to be contrarian?” Kotb asked. “Because you gave me the stink eye.”
The competitive streak continued throughout the entire segment. Kotb later interrupted Bush Hager as she began reading the next question, “Okay, will the coin toss land—”
“I know what I want!” Kotb announced. After Bush Hager finished reading the question (which was: Will the coin toss land on heads or tails?), she continued, “I don’t need all the details, I already know what it’s going to be. But go on, you can pick yours.”
Bush Hager chose heads, while Kotb predicted that it would land on tails because she “felt it” was right.
“Why do you like tails?” Bush Hager asked her. But instead of replying, Kotb admonished her for having a dirty mind. “Don’t try to make everything gross. Why do you make everything disgusting?” she asked while laughing.
The most shocking prediction came at the very end of the segment, however, when Bush Hager admitted that she expected the 49ers to win the Super Bowl, despite her affinity for Taylor Swift and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She also noted that the odds currently favor “the 49ers by about two points.”
Kotb told her co-host, “I think we’re both gonna say the Chiefs because we want the underdog.” When Bush Hager didn’t agree, Kotb then asked, “Does Mila know you’re talking like this?” referring to her 10-year-old daughter, who is a big fan of Swift and Kelce.
“No, don’t show it to Mila,” Bush Hager said to the camera. “Whatever you do, if you’re her little friends’ parents, don’t show it to Mila, or to poppy, or to Hal for that matter — you’re out! But I think it’s gonna be the 49ers. I love Taylor. I mean, the Chiefs have been in it a lot, the 49ers are actually the underdogs.”
We’ll have to watch to find out. The Super Bowl airs Sunday on NBC at 6:30 ET.
