Prince William and Princess Kate have been estranged from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for almost four years — but the future king and queen “are open” to a reconciliation, a source says.
The anonymous insider told Us Weekly that William and Kate are motivated to make amends for the sake of their three children.
“They want a relationship with Meghan and Harry, and they don’t want the acrimony to carry over to the next generation,” the source stated.
The insider added that Meghan and Harry feel similarly, saying: “Obviously, the Duke and Duchess want their kids to have a relationship with their cousins.”
William and Kate are parents to Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louise, 5, while Harry and Meghan are mom and dad to Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2.
Prince Harry is set to return to the UK next week for a ceremony to celebrate 10 years since the first Invictus Games, sparking speculation he could meet with William and Kate, who is currently being treated for cancer.
However, a separate source told The Mirror that it’s unlikely there will be any face-to-face reunion.
“Their relationship remains extremely fractured. Harry has privately expressed a wish to sit down with his brother but now is not the time,” he stated.
Harry is reportedly set to check into a hotel room during his upcoming trip to the UK after the royals failed to offer up any of their many residences.
It won’t be the first time Harry stays at a hotel during a dash to London, which he opted to do during a trip to the UK in February following King Charles’ cancer diagnosis.
It currently remains unclear as to whether Harry will see Charles during his brief stay in the UK next week.
A friend told The Daily Beast that Charles is eager to rebuild a relationship with Harry — something that William understands.
“Cancer puts things in perspective,” the friend said. “William respects his father’s wish to reconcile with his son, but his focus now is on protecting his family from stressful situations.”
