‘The Golden Bachelorette’s Guy Gansert Reacts To “Heartbreaking” Breakup: “I Thought I Was The Guy. I Was Convinced”

The Golden Bachelorette‘s live finale event included a fair share of happy and sad tears from Golden Gal Joan Vassos and her Golden Guys: Chock Chapple and Guy Gansert.

After Bachelor Nation watched the 61-year-old lead introduce one of her final two men to her family, she said goodbye to the other ahead of proposal day: Guy, the 66-year-old ER doctor from Reno, Nevada.

After the devastating break-up played out on screen, franchise host Jesse Palmer welcomed Joan’s ex Guy to the stage where he unpacked his post-finale emotions and confronted Joan again for the first time since leaving Bora Bora.

“I knew what happened, but I didn’t really know how it happened,” Guy told Jesse. “Everything was a blur, so watching that was heartbreaking. I’m gonna tell you that the emotions I was feeling were sincere. I didn’t expect it, as I said. I thought I was the guy. I was convinced. But I got so much out of it.”

“At this point in my life, that I can feel those emotions, feel what I call true love again? Watching that there I did and I do and I think I can do it again,” Guy said. After he reflected a bit, Joan came out and embraced him before sitting alongside him in the hot seat and catching up.

“Everything that you saw during the show, the things that I said, came from the heart and were sincere,” Guy told Joan. “You probably remember I seemed to be kind of a slow-burn and my heart was guarded, I was skeptical, I didn’t think I could get where I eventually got. Watching the end was difficult, but there’s so many emotions. I’ve reflected on it a lot over the last several months…was there something missing that I just didn’t really anticipate?”

“Kind of the opposite,” Joan explained. “I never ever thought I could have strong feelings for more than one person. As you described it, it was kind of a slow burn, but I was getting there with you. It comes down to the time thing and you’re such an amazing man…it was really really hard that the end to say goodbye to you because in any other situation I would have been with you. And we would have more time.”

Joan told Guy, “My heart belonged to someone else already so it was nothing you did, you are an amazing man. I’ve missed you… I hope that we will be friends and that one day we’ll be double dating.
