The six missing people in the Baltimore bridge collapse are construction workers who were repairing the span when it was struck by a large cargo ship Tuesday morning.
The construction workers were repairing potholes on the Francis Scott Key Bridge overnight when the cargo ship Dali rammed into one of the bridge’s supports, Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said during a news conference.
Eight people were on top of the bridge at the time of the collision, which instantly caused the structure to topple into the water below.
Two people were rescued from the frigid 47-degree water, with one in the hospital in serious condition.
