Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has reportedly told former President Donald Trump that she will be stepping down from her position shortly after the GOP South Carolina presidential primary later this month.
The New York Times reported that Trump is “likely” to promote North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley to be her replacement.
The news comes after Trump met with McDaniel on Monday at Mar-a-Lago and posted after their meeting: “Ronna is now Head of the RNC, and I’ll be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth.”
