A TikToker took to the social media platform this week to share a recording of a marriage proposal that should go straight into the trash.
“POV: I shouldn’t have been trusted to record my friend’s proposal,” Mary Dawson wrote in the text over her clip, which has attracted 17.8 million views since it was posted Sunday.
The 19-second video shows two people standing in a backyard holding hands. String lights illuminate the magical moment.
As the man reaches into his pocket, the camera pans to a raccoon hiding behind a fence. By the time the camera returns to the couple, they are already embracing.
“Missed the whole kneeling part. Dont worry, she wasn’t mad!” Dawson noted.
Neither Dawson nor the raccoon could be reached for comment.
Commenters, meanwhile, laughed over the mask-erade.
“‘The whole [kneeling] down part’ GIRL THATS THE PROPOSAL,” one TikToker shook her head.
“I’d actually be mad about the fact you didn’t call me over to see the raccoon….,” someone else argued.
“Its funny but its also disappointing behavior from a friend,” a third person chided.
“The raccoon was the real star here. Get pictures at the wedding. Invite the raccoon,” another advised.
This isn’t the only proposal that went off with a few hitches.
Just last week, a man in Colombia proposed to his girlfriend in the middle of the street after staging a fake gunpoint robbery.
And last month, a viral TikTok appeared to show an Italian suitor being turned down by his girlfriend during an elaborate public proposal in front of many onlookers.
