Oddsmakers are expecting a much-improved Gang Green in 2024.
FanDuel Sportsbook has pegged the New York Jets’ preseason over/under at 9.5 wins, which puts them right in the thick of the AFC East and playoff race.
The Jets are tied with the Miami Dolphins for the second-highest win total in the division, just behind the Buffalo Bills’ 10.5 wins. The New England Patriots are sitting at an NFL-worst 5.5 wins.
Though winning the division will be tough (+235), the Jets are more likely than not to make the playoffs, according to oddsmakers, with DraftKings Sportsbook putting them at -135 play postseason football, which are the seventh-best odds in the AFC.
In terms of a Super Bowl berth or title, the Jets are a mere fringe contender.
They’re currently tied with the Houston Texans for the sixth-best odds (+1200) to come out of the AFC and tied with the Atlanta Falcons with the 11th-best odds (+2200) to win the 2024 Super Bowl.
Despite optimism from the Jets, there already has been quite a bit of juice on the Under (-142).
Bettors have been much more shy to take the Over, which is currently priced at +120.
As Jets fans remember, the team was in a similar position a year ago.
The Jets opened last season with a win total of 9.5 and were expected to make a playoff push in Year 1 of the Aaron Rodgers Era.
Betting on the NFL?
Rodgers, of course, suffered a season-ending Achilles injury minutes into their Week 1 game against the Bills.
In Rodgers’ absence, the Jets would go 7-10 behind an excellent defense, finishing third in the AFC East.
With upgrades to the offensive line, the addition of Mike Williams and the No. 10 pick in April’s NFL Draft, the Jets once again have high expectations.
